When Cancer Comes Back: Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Recurrent Cancer

When patients receive a recurrent cancer diagnosis, they may worry that their treatment options are limited due to surgery or radiation therapy previously used to treat their primary cancer. CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery may be an option when cancer comes back.

CyberKnife delivers precisely targeted radiation directly to the recurrent tumor(s), located in the head and body, even where radiation therapy may have been used in the past. CyberKnife precision allows for reduced treatments (five or less) and minimal to no side effects allowing patients to return to their normal routines soon after treatment.

At Austin CyberKnife, our retreatment approach involves multidisciplinary collaboration between doctors and specialists to determine optimal treatment options. A patient’s diagnosis, disease pattern and medical history are evaluated to help decide the best plan for retreatment specific to the patient’s individual needs.

Austin CyberKnife uses CyberKnife® technology to treat primary, metastatic and recurrent tumors with stereotactic radiosurgery, an advanced radiation therapy technique that does not require anesthesia, incisions or a prolonged recovery period. Treatment is completed within five outpatient sessions, and patients typically return to their routines immediately following treatment.

Contact our center at (512) 324-8060 to find out if CyberKnife can be integrated into your treatment plan.
