Radiation Therapy for Lung Cancer

For lung cancer patients, treatment can be more complex because of the location of the tumor and tumor movement as a patient breathes during treatment. CyberKnife® provides a noninvasive treatment option called stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for inoperable tumors and those patients seeking an alternative to lung cancer surgery.

A benefit of using CyberKnife technology to treat lung tumors is the ability to track tumors in real time, adjusting for tumor movement during treatment. Radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue is minimized through the delivery of precisely focused, high-dose radiation beams. No sedation or incisions are involved.

Treatment is painless and is completed in five or fewer treatment sessions compared to up to 40 treatment sessions typically required with conventional radiation therapy. Patients may return to their normal routines immediately following CyberKnife treatment.
