For patients preparing to receive stereotactic radiosurgery, safety is among the most important aspects of patient care. In CyberKnife® treatment, one safeguard for patient safety is the treatment room.
As you receive treatment, there are several ways the treatment room provides a safe environment for you while also protecting others from radiation exposure.
- Custom design: A medical physicist custom designed our treatment room using their knowledge of all aspects of the CyberKnife treatment to ensure the room meets industry guidelines.
- Concrete walls: Walls of concrete and lead protect those outside of the room from radiation exposure.
- Visual communication with patients: Our radiation therapist is able to maintain visual communication with you throughout the treatment session to ensure your comfort and safety. Patients are observed throughout the treatment on video monitors, and they can pause treatment at any time by speaking or waving.
If you or a loved one has any questions about clinical safety or would like to tour the treatment room in advance of your session, please contact us.
