Spotlight On: Brain Tumor Treatment

When determining the best treatment for a brain tumor, a number of factors are considered, including the size and location of the tumor. While tumors are most commonly treated with surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or a combination of those treatments, some patients are unable or unwilling to endure the harsh side effects of conventional radiation therapy and chemotherapy, which can include nausea, fatigue and hair loss.

Our center uses CyberKnife® technology to treat tumors with highly focused radiation beams while sparing healthy surrounding tissue. The treatment requires no incision or sedation, and patients typically experience few to no side effects. CyberKnife has a major advantage when treating brain tumors because it does not require a metal frame attached to a patient’s skull before treatment.

Austin CyberKnife provides a multidisciplinary treatment approach for brain tumor patients through a network of collaborative partnerships with all neurosurgical groups throughout Austin.

The video below provides an overview of how CyberKnife treats brain tumors and explains the benefits of this advanced technology.
