The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) issued a final recommendation statement related to Lung Cancer Screening. Released on December 30, the USPSTF recommends annual low-dose CT scans for current and former smokers aged 55 and over. The recommendation defines former smokers as those who quit within the past 15 years.
The USPSTF is an independent panel of health care experts with specialties in prevention and evidence-based medicine. The organization conducts scientific evidence reviews in the areas of preventive health care services, such as screening, counseling and preventive medications, and prepares recommendations for primary care clinicians and health systems.
