National Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week: How CyberKnife Can Help

Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week 2015 is celebrated nationwide April 12-18.

According to the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance, research has shown that many people do not understand where oral, head and neck cancers develop, what are the causes, and how a diagnosis is determined. This type of cancer arises in the head or neck region, including the nasal cavity, sinuses, lips, mouth, thyroid glands, salivary glands, throat or larynx.

If the disease is detected, researching and exploring all treatment options in order to make an informed decision is an important step. At Austin CyberKnife, our cancer treatment approach involves multidisciplinary collaboration between physicians of different specialities to determine optimal treatment options specific to our patients’ individual needs.

Our center uses CyberKnife® technology to treat various types of cancer and noncancerous conditions like trigeminal neuralgia with stereotactic radiosurgery, an advanced form of radiation therapy that does not require anesthesia, incisions or a prolonged recovery time. Treatment is complete within five outpatient sessions. Typically, patients return to their normal routines immediately following treatment.
