Lung Cancer Awareness Month is celebrated each November to raise awareness for the second most common cancer in both men and women. The American Cancer Society estimates 15,000 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in Texas this year.
Below are a few ways to support the fight against lung cancer:
- Get Screened. Early detection is crucial to determining the best treatment method for a diagnosis. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recently released a recommendation that current and heavy smokers ages 55 – 79 undergo CT lung cancer screenings. Though still pending finalization, the measure could be a huge step in diagnosing high-risk patients sooner. To read more about the recommendation, view the draft for public comment.
- Learn About Lung Cancer. Early detection is crucial to determining the best treatment method for a diagnosis. Consulting with a doctor and learning the signs and symptoms of lung cancer can help families be prepared if at risk for developing the disease.
