March is honored as global Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, when health care organizations and medical teams work to raise awareness and educate people on kidney cancer and its treatment options.
Some primary and secondary kidney tumors may be treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). SBRT is a noninvasive treatment option that may carry less risk of complications than surgery, which is typically the standard treatment for primary kidney tumors.
Doctors may present SBRT as a treatment option for those who refuse surgery, have medically inoperable tumors, or have small, well-defined kidney tumors. During treatment, the CyberKnife® moves around the patient precisely targeting tumors from hundreds of angles, compensating for normal patient movement and minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissue surrounding a tumor. Treatment is complete within five outpatient sessions and patients experience minimal side effects.
If you or a loved one is considering SBRT for kidney tumor treatment, please contact our center at 512-324-8060 to learn more about CyberKnife.
